2025 KJLS Rules

New rules in 2025:
GENERAL
  • An exhibitor may show any combination of market and breeding animals for a maximum of four (4) animals per species. This is a maximum of four beef, four sheep, four goats and four swine per exhibitor.
SWINE
  • Breeding gilts must have been farrowed on or after January 1, 2025.
  • The registered and commercial gilt division will be broken by weight. Maximum weight on registered and commercial gilts is 350 lbs., with a 15 lb. weigh-back. Exhibitors will be able to declare their weights for gilts. The declared weight will need to be known at weigh-in.
  • Bred-and-owned gilts must have registration papers stating the exhibitor is both the owner and breeder.   No commercial gilts will be shown in the bred-and-owned division. Entries for bred-and-owned will be done at time of show entry. Bred-and-owned entries will not be accepted at the show.
  • All gilts and market barrows will be shown by weight.
  • Gilts must not weigh more than 350 lbs.
BEEF
  • All registered heifers and steers must be registered in the exhibitor's name no later than June 15 of the current year.
  • If a breed association allows for an EID tag for permanent identification in lieu of a tattoo, the EID tag number must be recorded on the animal's registration paper to be accepted. Official registration papers must accompany all steers at check-in on Friday.

  • A bred-and-owned show has been added for registered ewes.
  • Bred-and-owned ewes must have registration papers stating the exhibitor is both the owner and breeder. No commercial ewes will be shown in the bred-and-owned division. Entries for bred-and-owned will be done at time of show entry. Bred-and-owned entries will not be accepted at the show.

If a breed association allows for an EID tag for permanent identification in lieu of a tattoo, the EID tag number must be recorded on the animal’s registration paper to be accepted. Official registration papers must accompany all steers at check-in on Friday.
